In today’s world people are so attached with modern technologies such as smart phones, wi-fi, iPad/tablet, laptop, iPod and many more. Modern technology simplifies life in so many ways and everyone defines technology in their own way. Evolution of technology has been beneficial to mankind in many ways. Doctors and scientists consequently save many lives and combat very harmful viruses and bacteria. Research has been simplified with the help of computer and high speed internet. It is almost impossible to live without our smart phones these days. Technology evolution is literally on fire now. Every day you will come across with new gadgets or people discussing about the future technology. One days it’s so much fun but other days some how we feel sick.

Back to year 2000 when I came to India for my studies accompany with my mom and far away from dad, cousins and friends which were in Indonesia, I cried my heart out. Because I know I won’t be able to see them for next several months till I get summer holidays. Different time zone, different food, different languages, different culture. I was 11 years old that time. The last year of 20th century had different technology evolution which one of it was classy – a simple mobile phone. But the calling rates were too high. A simple local sms (160 characters) costed Rs.2 and incoming calls were chargeable. International call to Asian country costed Rs.25 per min. That time landline calls were cheaper compare to mobile calls but connectivity was bad. My heart knows how I survived without them that year.

I made new friends and met my families in different parts of India. I learn many things. For me, evening routine was – going to my friends place and we go for long walk, playing badminton or cricket, go for cycling or just talk every shit about school life and discussing about good future. During lazy days we used to play board games – monopoly, business, ludo, snakes and ladders. UNO card game was one of the craziest card game we ever played. (For those of you who are unfamiliar with one of the world’s most popular family games, Uno is a card game in which 2-10 players try to play all the cards in their hand by matching the color or number of a card in their hand with the card most recently played (so a player could play any blue card or any 4 on a Blue 4). If you can’t play, you must draw a card, and if you forget to yell “Uno!” when you get down to one card in your hand, you must also draw cards. The first player to zero cards wins). Few home video games we knew and Nintendo was the best one before CD games on computer. Bad days can cure just by playing Super Mario video game. The elder families and teachers were ‘google’ back then. Listening music on walkman (portable audio cassette players) was consider as rich kid that time. The life was simple until the technology evolution taken the world by storm.

There was a time when I prayed for easy and better life. Not only me, of course many people had this kind wish. Never thought it will be this easy! Technology has also increased the productivity of almost every industry in the world and the evolution of Smart Phone and high speed mobile internet / wi-fi are truly blessings for us. Internet services have become a staple in today’s society. Even those living in rural, less populated areas – which don’t always have access to cable or DSL internet services – can connect with top online platforms through satellite internet.

Another biggest blessing is ‘GOOGLE’. A platform where we get 99.99% answers of all questions our mind churning every minute. Due to the increase in social networking sites, world has become a small place to live. While browsing on google about The History of Social Media, I came across this interesting page which have explained it in easy way. Feels like reading about a baby growing up 😀

Missing family / friends, need to talk, asking suggestions – we just connect thru call, skype, whats app, bbm, face book, many other social sites. Video calling is especially helpful when family or friends are separated by long distances. Some people watching their kids growing on video chat because they are away for work reason. DIY Cam saved our brain from over thinking, we stay more alert. Friends / Cousins are away, need to decide what dress you should wear, tap – face time. Horray!! Problem solved. Opps! and those travel photos on facebook are just lit! Did I forgot to mention about You Tube, Gosh! Another world. It is believed that modern technology helps in maintaining and strengthening family relationships, where communication is taking place effectively.

Shopping and booking vacation trip(s) while seating on my favourite bean bag and put on my comfortable pyjamas – dream come true!! Booking concerts / movie tickets on the go while waiting for the lift. Freebies are the another reason we all love shop online. You need not to travel to another part of the world to get your favourite brand. I even get noodles packets from all over part of the world by purchasing it online 😀 as well Best NYC Streetwear Brands are just tap away. International shopping courier charges are definitely way more cheaper than a return flight ticket :p.

Online Education is another blessing I can name on. It’s no wonder why millions of students from all around the world opt for online degree programs or take at least one college course through an online platform. Online learning has to be the greatest revolution in contemporary education. It made a huge change in the system and opened great opportunities for everyone who wants to learn something. You can learn whatever you want and forget about attending classes for hours, sitting in an uncomfortable chair, and suffering from back pain by the end of the day. All lectures and needed materials are provided via online platforms, so you’ll easily access them from the comfort of your home. You will not take public transport or ride / drive your own two / four wheeler to get to institute / campus, you won’t have to get up early to get dressed for class. The list of conveniences goes on and on. It doesn’t matter where your career stands at this moment; an online program will always look good on your resume. It will show potential employers that you’re committed to learning and you’re eager to obtain more knowledge and new skills. Now-a-days HR don’t see online degrees as negative or traditional ones. A degree is a degree. If you obtain an online degree from a prestigious university, you’ll boost your career with the speed of light. You will certainly become a better candidate for a job promotion, and your resume will look much better when you apply for new positions. Last but not the least – the online programs are cheaper when compared to the ones held in an institute / campus setting is enough to convince you to consider them.

The most annoying task of the week – Grocery shopping, which is a time-consuming, what with making a list, traveling to and from the store and then browsing through seemingly endless aisles to find what you’re looking for. Online grocery shopping the best way to get all thing you want, big discount and home delivery. No more hassle to carry heavy shopping bags. Phew! and free credits – good deed return 😀

From school fees, mobile recharge / bills, electricity bills, watching new series, playing games, virtual world tour on google earth, many many many many more things we are easily access to. Did I forgot to mention about Instagram and VSCO. Kid me not, you all know about these two virtual photo world!

The most basic and best thing I learnt from online shopping is – PATIENCE. You need to wait for few hours to days and many times waiting took weeks (for international shopping). The patience level increase day by day. Isn’t good?

The generation of today can be figured as the Internet Generation. Technology has had a profound impact on what it means to be social.  We are at a point in history where very few people have given critical thoughts to new social realities created by technology and what those realities mean for the individual and society.  If on the one hand, technology has eased the lives of people, on the other hand, it acts as a detriment when it comes to abide by social relationships and interactions.

Dependence on new technology has many dark sides. Man no longer needs to think. Even if the calculator is a good invention, man no longer makes mental calculation and no longer works his memory. But smart phone calculator is more handy. The decline of human capital implies an increase in unemployment. In some areas, devices can replace the human mind. The habit of solving puzzles is a history (some still do it! Bravo!), we simple ask ‘google’.

Grand parents have expressed their fears that one day technology will pulls families apart and yes it is happening!! I have mention this on my very fist part of the Virtual World series (You can read it here). Undoubtedly, technology is affecting family relationships. Children have little time to share with parents and vise-versa. Close friends are meeting with each other rest have become our social media friends. The funny part is – wishing birthday and anniversary on social media. And we are pleased. Undeniably, the emergence of technologies has minimized the hindrance of time and space, under the assumption that social life in all its aspects has become easier. It is true that due tools such as mobile phones and the Internet, better communication across the world has been possible and gaining understanding of other cultures has become more accessible but it has create such difference that to gather all family members which are living under same roof is by switching off wi-fi.

Most technological discoveries aim to reduce human effort, it would imply that more work is done by machines. This equates to less work for people: the human is becoming ever so obsolete by the day, as processes become automated and jobs are made redundant.

Let’s talk about ‘hackers’. They own the virtual world. Yes! they are, ain’t kidding. No more risk to get caught, so they play ghost. Recently on June 27th, U.S. hospitals have been hit by the global ransomware attack. The ransomware was linked to a leaked vulnerability originally kept by the National Security Agency. They encrypted computers and then demand that users pay $300 to a bitcoin address to restore access. Game of Thrones Season 8 episodes leaks were one of the worst happen last month. The apparent hacker or hackers, who go by the name “Mr. Smith,” also released a video addressing HBO Chairman and CEO Richard Plepler, demanding the company to pay a ransom – to be paid in Bitcoin which was around $6 million in order to stop further leaks. But this year seems jinxed for HBO too.

Technology is making us lazy and fat. For all the technology evolution reasons, some has resulted and leads us to be lazy and obesity. Agree?? Social Networking sites are also among one of the many reasons why we are lazy socially. Instead of going out and meeting people, we’ve become more relaxed meeting people from the comfort of our couches by video callings or talking over the phone or chatting. People are texting and walking and met with silly accidents which is no joke anymore! and still many of them are texting and driving which has leads to more number of accidents.

There are many more darker side of the modern technology. These are just few examples which we are facing in our day-to-day life. Some I have already discuss on my second part of the Virtual World series (You can read it here). While world is changing in a blink of an eye, there are few places in the world where modern technology hasn’t effect them or their life style negatively yet. They still connect with nature, take walk every day and breathe fresh air but there also few places where people don’t even aware about the modern technology. Some kids named these places – the alien world. Because they can’t even think to spend an hour without watching you tube videos or playing games on mobile.

Last but not the least, while writing this blog, I read Randeep Hooda message on Facebook.

…to be continued.
